Tar River Elementary School was our winner for the trash can contest! The 4th-grade students designed the winning trash can! The Art Teacher designed a really cool Art Project for them in honor of winning and we had a number of guests from the Granville Green task force to attend the celebration. Keep up the good work.
April 25, 2026 - Beautify Butner Day.
We had a smaller group of volunteers than in past years but we got the job done. Butner is much cleaner due to our efforts and the Butner Community Association thanks everyone who came out to pitch in. A group of dedicated volunteers can really make a difference. This is an annual event but if you see litter, be a good citizen and pick it up, the planet belongs to everyone. Thanks in advance to the Town of Butner for picking up all the DOT liter bags around town.
We collected approximately 40 bags of litter, 1 pocket knife, 1 pair of heavily perfumed jeans, 1 cooler top and 1 bicycle. The majority of the litter was fast food containers, the usual Bootlegger bottles, beer cans, lots of plastic bottles and aluminum drink cans.
Remember to put litter in its proper place and urge others to do so too.
April 25, 2026 - Stem Litter Sweep
On Saturday, April 25th, a small but mighty group of commissioners, citizens, and staff gathered to make Stem sparkle by picking up litter throughout town. One lucky participant even came away from the event with more than just the good feeling that comes from volunteering in their community.
